Patrizia Catalano

Biography

Architect and professional journalist, she has collaborated with numerous national and international publications. From 2000 to 2004, she was in charge of the Design and Architecture section of IO Donna, the weekly magazine supplement of Corriere della Sera, and contributed to leading national and international publications including AD France, The World of Interiors, Marie Claire Italia, and Il Corriere della Sera. Since 2005, she has been a consultant for INTERNI magazine, where she coordinates the Interni Annual supplements and the publication’s international events in New York, London, and Paris. Long committed to themes related to art and interiors, she has published several books on the subject, including Casa Italiana for Rizzoli Italia and Rizzoli New York, Living Today for Mondadori Arte, and Interior Italia for Electa. In 2019, she founded HoperAperta, an independent cultural association dedicated to exploring the relationship between art, design, and architecture. Through thematic exhibitions, the association collaborates with major public and private institutions, including the Fashion and Design Department and the Culture Department of the City of Milan, Milan Design Week, the CUPRA Research Center in Barcelona (Volkswagen Group), the Giovanni Segantini Foundation in Maloja (Switzerland), the Paolo Grassi Foundation in Martina Franca (Italy), the Italian Pavilion at the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale, Confindustria Salerno, Salerno Design Week, the Provincial Art Gallery of Palazzo Pinto in Salerno, the European Union, and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2023, at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Farnesina) in Rome, she moderated the opening press conference of the 7th edition of Italian Design Day. She also served as Italian Design Ambassador for Italian Design Day at the Italian Embassy in Bern, Switzerland. For the European Union, she was co-curator of “Design Beyond Things”, the first European exhibition on design promoted by the EU and presented at the European Union Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025 in Japan. She conceived and promoted HoperAperta’s event “La Casa che Amo” at GENS, part of the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale curated by Carlo Ratti. She is currently collaborating with HoperAperta and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on a sustainability-focused project through the exhibition “Residui”, dedicated to innovative waste-derived materials from the agri-food sector. She lives and works in Milan.
