Mario Bisson

Professor Mario Bisson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Design at Politecnico di Milano. His academic activity focuses on the fields of industrial design, visual perception, synesthesia, and color culture. His academic and research profile is structured around institutional and scientific roles:

• Teaching Activities: He teaches Industrial Design, Visual Elements for Design and Color at the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano. He also has extensive teaching experience dating back to the early 1990s, including his long-standing collaboration with Prof. Attilio Marcolli and teaching activities at the Scuola Politecnica del Design (SPD) and the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED).
• Laboratory Leadership: He is the Scientific Director of the Color Laboratory within the Department of Design. He is also a promoter and co-founder of EDME (Environmental Design and Multisensory Experience), the interdepartmental laboratory of Politecnico di Milano focused on the integration of environmental design and multisensory experiences.
• International Initiatives: From 2013 to 2025, he co-founded the Mediterranean Design Association (MDA) to promote research on environmental design and design identity throughout the Mediterranean region, serving as its Scientific Director. He is also Co-Director of the Master's programs in Sensorial Surface Design and Light and Color Culture and Human Experience at PoliDesign (Politecnico di Milano).
• Research Areas: His scientific activity combines a humanistic background with industrial innovation. His research focuses on synesthetic perception, with particular attention to CMF Design (Color, Materials, and Finishes), and on the emotional and cognitive impact that surfaces and environments have on users. In these fields, he has authored numerous scientific publications of national and international relevance.

He is actively involved in international conferences, seminars, and lectures dedicated to design, color, and innovation, promoting dialogue between academic research, design culture, and professional practice at a global level
