Marina Cella

Biography

Marina Cella is a senior architect with extensive experience in residential architecture, specializing in the design of single-family and multi-family housing. She has built a strong career in the leadership and management of international projects during her time at the architecture firm External Reference, contributing to landmark projects including the Spain Pavilion at Expo Dubai. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), where her research focuses on the relationship between energy, the environment, and architecture. At the same time, she has promoted initiatives focused on social impact and urban ecology, including Barcelona Verde. Through her project Plug in Nature, she explores AI-generated imaginary spaces where nature and architecture interact and coexist harmoniously. Her research on biomaterials is based on a fundamental principle: waste does not exist; rather, it consists of resources that can be transformed into new nutrients within a continuous cycle. She also teaches sustainability and biomaterials in undergraduate and master's degree programs at the LCI School of Design.
