Cybersecurity and Machine Safety: A Changing Concept of Compliance

The increase in cyberattacks targeting the manufacturing sector, together with the entry into force of new European regulations, is transforming the way industrial machinery is designed and managed. Safety is no longer limited to mechanical and electrical aspects, but now also includes software, connectivity, remote access, updates, and data protection.

With the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 and the Cyber Resilience Act, manufacturers will be required to integrate cybersecurity into risk assessment, product design, technical documentation, and lifecycle management. Cyber risk assessment is therefore becoming an essential element of both regulatory compliance and machine safety.
